Communications Ministry reports Internet access services in Russia

There are 2,200 Internet access centers in Russian post offices thatoperate within the Cyber Post project, Senior Deputy CommunicationsMinister Alexander Kiselyov announced at a press conference today. Theconference was devoted to outlooks for the development of mail-order tradein Russia. According to the deputy minister, the number of post officesoffering Internet access services will increase to 15,000 by the end of2003 in the event the project is financed from the federal budget.The Communications Ministry's official reported that the cost of anInternet access center was about $1,500-1,700 on average. He explained thatsome post offices could provide Internet access only via satellitenetworks. As of now, there are 40,000 post offices in Russia..
