The Russian government has fixed quotas for fishing Pacific salmon. The instruction was signed by government chairman Mikhail Kasyanov, RIA Novosti was told at the government information department.

The Japanese quota for fishing 11,000 tonnes of Pacific salmon has been set in line with the intergovernmental agreement with Japan on cooperation between fisheries.

A quota for fishing 5,550 tonnes of Pacific salmon for state monitoring of salmon migration in Russia's exclusive economic zone has also been fixed.

In addition, quotas for fishing 16,207,860 kilogrammes of Pacific salmon for research, monitoring and fish-breeding ends have been set. They are based on scientific programmes and resource study plans.

Industrial quotas for the catch of 125,017,740 kilogrammes of Pacific salmon have been given to federation entities adjacent to the sea shore.

The quotas will be distributed between applicants which supply raw fish to fish-processing plants based in Russia or selling their products in Russia, said the government information department.
