The present-day growth in the Russian economy will help it "not only overcome the difficulties we are witnessing today but also make much headway," Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday, addressing a session of the World Economic Forum in Moscow. The head of state admitted that "the Russian economy is not integrated into the world economy well enough to feel subtle nuances of its fluctuations." At the same time, he said, developments in the world as a whole have an effect on Russia. "We closely watch what is going on in the world economy and compare our actions with forecasts by world experts," Putin said. He said Russia "is optimistic, especially about its medium- and long-term prospects." After the 1998 financial crisis, the international financial community took measures to neutralise its negative consequences, Putin noted, adding that "hardly anyone will ever be able to undermine the foundation of the world economy."
