The international Moscow-Invest 2001 forum is scheduled to be held October 11 to 13 in Berlin, RIA Novosti was told by one of the forum organisers, Alexander Borisov, director-general of the Moscow International Business Association. According to him, the forum will take place under the patronage of the Moscow Mayor and with the participation of representatives of federal and regional authorities of the two countries. Borisov said that Mikhail Gorbachev had given his consent to participation in the forum. German politicians and entrepreneurs alike "traditionally pay heed" to his opinion, he said. The aim of the forum will be to acquaint foreign business circles with the investment climate in Russia and with specific projects important to the country, noted Alexander Borisov. He said that one special feature of this forum will be participation in it of delegations from all regions of the Central Federal District of Russia. An invitation has been sent to the presidential envoy to that district, Georgy Poltavchenko. The October 2001 investment forum in Berlin is going to be a fourth one of its kind. The first forum was held in London in 1998 and the next two, in Moscow and Tel Aviv. Berlin has been chosen because in the past decade, Germany has been a leading economic partner both to Moscow and Russia as a whole. Moscow-based German entrepreneurs now form the largest "foreign business community," which widely represents entrepreneurs from Berlin, Dusseldorf and Bavaria. The Russian capital cooperates with Germany both in traditional industries (such as chemistry, water purification, beer brewing, and commerce) and in progressive high-tech branches. -O- (kos/kom) 23/04/01 18:55
