Sberbank issues 2m VISA and MasterCard cards
As of August 1, 2002, Sberbank has issued over two million cards of theVISA and MasterCard international payment systems, 476.000 of them VISAcards and 1.528 million MasterCard cards, the press service of the bankreported. Since the beginning of 2002, the total amount of internationalcards has grown by over 450,000, first of all due to active issuingSberbank Maestro and Sberbank VISA Electron debet cards, the bank reported.The majority of cards has been issued by Moscow subsidiaries of the bank,by the Northwestern, Srednerussky, Northern and Povolzhsky banks ofSberbank.
