Russia's exports of electricity go down

Russia exported 7.588bn kWh of electricity in the first six months of 2002 worth $130.6m, the Russian customs committee reported. This export volume was 23 percent less as compared to the corresponding period in 2001. In particular, exports to the CIS amounted to more than 3bn kWh worth $55.2m and exports to other foreign countries reached 4.581bn kWh for $75.4m. According to the customs committee, in the first half of 2001 Russia exported 9.816bn kWh of electricity worth $157.449m. Exports of electricity make up 0.3 percent in the total volume of Russia's exports.

In 2001, the national energy grid RAO UES exported 17.898bn kWh of electricity worth more than $254m versus 13.5bn kWh exported in 2000. The main partners of RAO UES are Belarus, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Poland and Finland.
