Oil workers in Nigeria are preparing for their two-day warning strike planned to be implemented on the 23rd of September. They are protesting the planned sale of national oil company NNPC. For the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) this strike is an ultimatum to the central government to rescind plans to sell NNPC. The union also wants the government to intervene in its long-standing dispute with ChevronTexaco. The PENGASSAN’s request was announced in the national newspapers. Members of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) tend to join the strike too because the issues involved in the dispute are sector problems which cut across the two unions.
