Russian Aluminum Exports Decline
Russian aluminum plants reduced the volume of export in January-August 2002 by 10.77% compared to that in the corresponding period of 2001. The volume of export reached 1.84m tons, the State Customs Committee reported. In terms of the value, the volume of export fell by 22.98% to $1.92bn. Most of the supplies went to non-CIS countries. 1,300 tons of aluminum, totaling $2m, were supplied to CIS countries.
The export of refined copper fell by 16.6% in the first 8 months of 2002 to 331,600 tons compared to that in the corresponding period of 2001. The total value of exported copper fell from $615.0m to $456.2m. The copper export to non-CIS countries reached 328,600 tons (compared to 396,100 tons a year ago), totaling $452.2m ($612.7m).
The nickel export grew by 81.7% over that period and reached 210,350 tons, totaling $1.26bn (710.4m).
