Sberbank lowers interest rates

In order to improve its credit policy and make its credits more accessible for a greater number of potential borrowers, Sberbank set new credit rates for individuals effective August 1, 2002. This information was released by the bank's press service.

A one-year "corporate credit" in rubles is granted at 18.5 percent per annum; a one- to three-year credit of this kind is now released at 20 percent per annum. As a source in the bank reported to RBC, this credit was previously allocated at 19 percent per annum for one year only. A "corporate credit" in US dollars is given out at 11 percent per annum for the term of one year and at 12 percent per annum for the term of one to three years (earlier - at 19 percent per annum).

The "educational credit" can be released only in Russian rubles. It is given out at 20 percent per annum (previously - at 22 percent). US dollar credits "for emergency needs" are now allotted at 13 percent per annum (previously - at 14 percent). The interest rate for this kind of credits in Russian rubles did not change and remained at 22 percent per annum.

Dollar credits for purchasing, constructing and reconstructing real estate is now granted at 12 percent per annum (previously - at 13 percent). Ruble credit rates of this kind remained at 23 percent per annum.
