Chelyabinsk meteorite changes color and size

Members of the expedition, who recovered the largest fragment of the Chelyabinsk meteorite from the bottom Lake Chebarkul, visited the local museum, where the fragment was being stored and did not recognize the cosmic body that fell in early 2013 in Russia's South Urals.

The divers from Yekaterinburg are certain that the meteorite has changed its color and size after it was raised from the bottom of the lake. The divers claim that the piece of the meteorite was larger and blacker several months ago.

According to an employee of the Chelyabinsk Regional Museum, Edward Shaygorodsky, a few fragments broke away from the meteorite during transportation. Furthermore, the specialist explained, the weight of the meteorite continued to decrease due to the evaporation of water. "Iron chlorides,  or rust, come up on the surface of the meteorite together with water," he added.

The divers plan to come to visit the meteorite on February 15 to celebrate the anniversary of the much talked about phenomenon.
