Ball given in Lenin’s birthplace

The first charity ball since the Bolshevik revolution has the other day been given in the city of Simbirsk which is situated on the Volga River (incidentally, it is the birthplace of Vladimir Ulyanov-Lenin, the founder of Bolshevism). The ball passed off in a former Nobility Assembly House. Lyudmila Shamanova, the wife of the Ulyanovsk Region’s governor, was the ball’s organizer. All the money raised by the organizers have been remitted to the bank account of the Childern’s Foundation for the Baranovski Orphan Boarding School and other children’s institutions of the region. In all, over Rbs1.2m was raised. Mikhail Gutseriyev, the president of the Slavneft oil major, was decorated with a medal for the largest donation (Rbs500,000).
