New city on unique coal mine deposit to be built in Yakutia

A new city with a population of 18-20 thousand people may appear in the Neryungrinsky district in Yakutia. The plans to build the city on the unique Elginsky deposit of coking coal were considered by the Government of the Republic of Sakha in conjunction with Mechel company and Yakutugol, which is a part of Mechel holding company.

The companies have been developing the field for several years. Mechel invests billions of dollars in the project.  The company expects to create a super-modern production on Elga. For this purpose, the company buys expensive equipment and uses state-of-the-art technologies. In the future, Mechel plans to build a large coal-powered heat and power plant on the deposit. The company also considers options to develop the industrial production of synthetic gasoline and diesel fuel on the base of local coal. For successful implementation of the plans, the company needs highly qualified personnel.

At present moment, people work on the field in shifts -  1,100 people in each shift. But the shift method is not suitable for the successful implementation of the plans. The company needs highly qualified personnel. It is possible to attract the professionals of this level by creating  conditions for the normal life of their families.

The government of Yakutia in conjunction with Yakutugol have discussed the issues related to the construction of a permanent settlement. In the near future,  the company's management will provide all data necessary to calculate the costs of creating the new city.

A railway 315 kilometers long has already been built during the development of the Elga coal deposit in the remote uninhabited taiga. Last year, miners extracted 200,000 tons of coal on the Elga. In 2013, the production should increase to three million tons; in 2015 - up to nine million tons. The capacity of Elga coal mine will be 27 million tons of high quality coal per year. The first processing plant will be put into operation in September. It is planned to build three such power plants with the capacity of nine million tons per year each.
