Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a federal law "On the protection of public health from exposure to environmental tobacco smoke and the effects of tobacco use," the press service of the Kremlin said on Monday, Feb. 25th. The federal law was passed by the State Duma on February 12th and approved by the Federation Council on February 20th.

The law provides for the protection of public health from exposure to environmental tobacco smoke and the consequences of tobacco use. Tobacco smoking will thus be prohibited in a variety of public locations, premises and facilities. Additionally, there are restrictions on tobacco advertising and sponsorship.
