The Moscow City Duma approved (in the first reading) changes to the legislation concerning the color of passenger taxicabs in Moscow. Under the amendments, from July 1, all vehicles operating as taxicabs will have to be repainted in yellow.

According to deputy mayor of Moscow, the head of the Department of Transport and the Development of Road Transport Infrastructure, Maxim Liksutov, there were 28,000 permits for this type of activity issued in Moscow. However, only 2,500 cars are painted in yellow.

The requirement will affect those who receive their permits from 1 July 2013. Painting a vehicle in yellow will cost about 10-15 thousand rubles ($400-500). The yellow film will last for three or five years.
