Arkhangelsk rescue teams to fly in Mars

Tests on a special rescue hovercraft have been completed in Russia’s northern city of Arkhangelsk. A universal seven-seater hovercraft, the Mars-700, which has just undergone a test in a water area near the city beach, was designed in Nizhny Novgorod. The vessel can cover 1,000 km at a speed of up to 70 km per hour.

In addition, but for an unlucky accident, the northern rescuers would have hardly received such a hovercraft. Director of the regional rescue service, Igor Polivanny says that, last year, Governor Yefremov saw for himself how difficult it was for rescuers to travel through the deep snow to the accident site when an An-26 crashed at a military aerodrome in Katunino. After that tragic accident, money was appropriated to buy the Mars-700 and make the work of the rescuers easier.
