UN to aid 10,000 AIDS orphans in Burkina Faso

The United Nations Development Programme is to provide school materials for 10,000 AIDS orphans in the West African state of Burkina Faso.

Donor nations have provided 145,000 USD for the programme, which began as an education assistance project launched by France in the year 2000.

66% of the citizens of Burkina Faso live on less than one USD per day, while only 33% of the country’s children are enrolled in primary school. 270,000 children have lost one or both parents to AIDS.
