Fault line may provoke gigantic wave, claim scientists

Japanese scientists have discovered a fault line on the Ocean floor off the South-East coast of Japan, which they warn could provoke a tidal wave, or tsunami.

It is believed that the fault could have been responsible for the earthquake which devastated this region of Japan in 1994, measuring 8.1 on the Richter scale (highest reading 9).

The discovery was made by a team from the Technology and Marine Science Centre in Japan, which claimed that if an earthquake were to occur near the fault, it would place all the cities along the Japanese coast in jeopardy, involving a serious loss of life, since the tsunami would take only a few minutes to hit the coast.
