Nizhny Novgorod region shows exemplary development of sports facilities

Nizhny Novgorod Governor Valery Shantsev and Russian bobsledder and journalist Irina Skvortsova discussed the development of sport in the region and issues related to the creation of accessible environment for disabled individuals.

According to Irina Skvortsova, the implementation of a large-scale program to build fitness and recreation centers showed a positive influence on the popularization of mass sports in the region. During the recent years, the number of Nizhny Novgorod residents, who do regular sports, has tripled.

"Honestly, I have not seen such a concentration of sports complexes in any other country. What we can see in the Nizhny Novgorod region today, we can hardly see anywhere else, if only in capital cities, - said the Russian athlete. - I think that the experience of sports and recreation complexes in the Nizhny Novgorod region could be useful for other regions. Although, of course, I understand that a lot depends on governors, as not all of them are ready to direct budgetary funds for the construction of sports facilities."

Irina Skvortsova arrived in the Nizhny Novgorod region to meet with the governor and conduct master classes for participants of the project titled "Get up on your feet" that is being implemented by Praktika Center under the direction of Nina Zvereva, with the support of the regional government. The project is open to both parents of children with disabilities, and those Russians (above 17 years of age) who have health restrictions for physical activities.

"I see a lot of physically challenged individuals, but I can never call them disabled. They are full of energy, passion and a strong desire to escape from circumstances," Nizhny Novgorod region Governor Valery Shantsev said.
