Russia elaborates Anti-Magnitsky Act against US citizens
On December 14th, State Duma considers a bill "On measures against the persons involved in the violation of the rights of the citizens of the Russian Federation." The document should become a response to the Magnitsky Act, which has been approved by the U.S. Congress.
The specific names of Russia's "Anti-Magnitsky Act" have not been announced yet. It was said, though, that the list would contain the names of US officials and citizens, who violated the rights of Russian citizens, Alexander Lukashevich, an official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said at a news conference.
"Unfortunately, in the United States, the crimes committed against our fellow citizens are often left unpunished," he said.
According to Lukashevich, President Barack Obama will sign the bill on "Magnitsky list" on Friday.
The speaker of the Russian parliament, Sergei Naryshkin, and leaders of four factions have prepared the draft law. Russian MPs have dubbed the document as "the law named after Dima Yakovlev." Dima was a two-year-old boy from Russia, who died in the United States after his adoptive father left him in the hot car for hours. The Russian list in response to the infamous acts approved in the USA may contain 22 foreign families who will be denied entry to Russia.
