Representatives of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland are to hold an observation flight over the territory of Russia and Belarus within the framework of the Open Skies Treaty. The flight has been scheduled on August 12-16 with the use of the Swedish SAAB OS-100 observation aircraft to monitor military activity in the territories of the observed states.

Russian and Belarusian experts will be on board to control the use of equipment and surveillance systems.

The Open Skies Treaty unites 34 countries. The document was signed in 1992 in Helsinki to build confidence among its members and give an opportunity to openly collect information about military forces and activities that raise concerns among the participants of the treaties.
