Monument in memory of Steve Jobs unveiled in Russia's St. Petersburg
A six-foot monument in the form of a black iPhone 4 appeared in Russia's St. Petersburg. Russian Apple fans installed the construction to immortalize the founder of the company, Steve Jobs.
The sculpture was officially opened in the courtyard of the St. Petersburg Technopark of the National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics on January 9th. The rector of the university, Vladimir Vasilyev, and Steve Jobs' associate, Timothy Dion, attended the ceremony.
The date to open the monument was not incidental. It was January 9, 2007, when Jobs presented a model of the first generation of the legendary "iPhone."
In 2012, Progress Foundation IT announced a competition to design a monument to the world-famous American entrepreneur. The jury reviewed about 200 works from different countries, including Russia, the Czech Republic, Italy, Greece, Canada and Indonesia.
The winner is a man from St. Petersburg. His version of the monument is a stand with the solar QR-code. The image of the code can be read only at 12:00, when they fire a cannon at the renowned Peter and Paul Fortress.
