Russia to create register of banned symbols

 

Russia's Justice Ministry proposes to create an official register of symbols of banned extremist organizations. Relevant amendments to the law "On Countering Extremist Activity" are already being considered in the department.

The initiative of the Ministry is based on the need to approve symbols of nonprofit organizations. It is proposed to prohibit non-profit organizations from having symbols, emblems and other signs that copy or imitate emblems and other symbols of existing parties and organizations whose activities in Russia are banned. The symbols discrediting the national flag, emblem and anthem of Russia, as well as flags, emblems and anthems entities, municipalities of foreign governments are subject to ban too.

The register of banned symbols in trademarks is already being created in the State Organization "Federal Institute of Industrial Property" (Rospatent). Russia's Civil Code does not allow the registration of trademarks, the graphic presentation of which is contrary to public interests and principles of humanity and morality. Experts predict that the appearance of the official register will make the work of specialists a lot easier.
