Clashes between Albanian rebels and Macedonian security forces spread throughout Macedonia. There are reports of the rebel attacks near Tetovo, in the country’s north-west. The rebels are also reported to have attacked police outposts in mountain villages north of the city. If it is so, the Macedonian army is finding itself in quite a predicament, because it has focused on fighting the rebels in the country’s north-east. Sustained attacks on Macedonian cities and villages afford a basis for considering the imposition of marshal law in the country, the Macedonian presidential administration has stated. The Macedonian parliament, which is entitled to impose martial law, is due to convene on Tuesday. For such a decision to go through, not less than two-thirds of the deputies’ votes is required, that is, 81 out of 120, as the minimum.
