Russia's Kamchatka considers ecological issues

The government of Kamchatka discussed environmental aspects for developing ore deposits. Representatives of the Regional Ministry for Natural Resources and Environment, mining companies, public organizations, the Federal Agency for the Control of Nature took part in the meeting that was chaired by deputy chairman of the regional government.

The participants of the meeting discussed the issues of environmental safety at mining companies in Kamchatka, the problems of environmental protection, the correlation of natural and manmade factors influencing the environment of Kamchatka.

As noted by Deputy Prime Minister of the regional government, Vladimir Galitsyn, such activities contribute to the development of a constructive dialogue between all interested parties, raise social responsibilities of those using the interior of the planet, providing environmental safety in the development of ore deposits, the openness and transparency of the mining industry in observing  the norms and requirements of environmental regulations.

"All of us are residents of Kamchatka, so we are interested in its sustainable economic and social development while providing a favorable environment and maintaining ecological security in the region," said deputy chairman of the government of Kamchatka.

According to the results of the extended meeting, there was a resolution adopted in accordance with which, the development of mineral resources in the region was recognized as a necessary and inevitable part of social and economic development of the region and the Far East of Russia. The environment-friendly use of nature was recognized as one of them priorities in the development of mineral resources.

The Public Chamber of Kamchatka and the Legislative Assembly were recommended to initiate legislation on the adoption of the procedure for conducting public environmental control. The Regional Ministry of Natural Resources was recommended to quarterly inform the population of the results of environmental monitoring.

The mining companies operating in the region were recommended to optimize the systems of self-monitoring and control, ensure the provision of quarterly results to supervisory authorities and the Regional Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
