Kim Yong-nam, the suspected eldest son and heir-apparent of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, was deported to China today after he was caught trying to enter Japan on a false passport earlier this week, the Japan authorities say. The deportation is believed to have come as a result of the negotiations between Japan and China which lasted throughout yesterday. It is not clear so far why Mr. Kim Yong-nam headed for China and not for North Korea. He flew to Beijing by ordinary flight. Incidentally, Japan does not have diplomatic relations with China.
