Angola: UNITA factions to unite
The rebel faction UNITA is to unite as the splinter faction UNITA Renovada is disbanded by its leader, Eugenio Manuvakola, opening the path for a reconciliation with the orthodox UNITA party led by Paulo Lukamba Gato, after the death of historic leader Dr. Jonas Savimbi on February 20th.
Manuvakola had lost control of his faction in the Angolan Parliament, whose leader expressed his commitment to Gato and the orthodox wing of the party, as simultaneously, the party’s regional leaders in several provinces called for UNITA to unite so as to have a greater chance of winning a future election.
