Russian official offers measures to preserve Ukraine's integrity

The head of the Duma Committee on Education, an expert on international issues, Vyacheslav Nikonov, formulated the measures that would, in his opinion, preserve the integrity of Ukraine.

"First, one should conduct a constitutional reform, stipulating three aspects in the new Constitution. Specifically, in the main document of Ukraine should regulate the federal structure, a possibility for citizens of each region to elect their power, the status of the Russian language as the a state language, as long as it is a native language for almost half of the population, the non-aligned status of Ukraine and the the adoption of the Constitution by referendum," said the politician.

"On the basis of the new Constitution, one should conduct presidential and parliamentary elections. One should give an opportunity to representatives of the so-called "new government" to campaign, but at the same time, the electoral process should be controlled not to let representatives of the "Right Sector" do it. One should disarm all extremists and release all political prisoners. The broadcast of Russian TV channels should be renewed, whereas the West should lift the shameful sanctions," concluded Nikonov.
