Massive fire at military warehouse kills ten

At least 18 people were injured, ten were killed in a fire and a series of explosions that occurred at a warehouse of engineering ammunition in the village of Bolshaya Tura, the Karymskii district of the Trans-Baikal Territory.

"Eighteen people were injured, eleven of them were hospitalized, seven victims received outpatient care. Information on the number of deaths is to be confirmed," officials with the Russian Emergencies Ministry said.

Rescuers evacuated more than two thousand people from neighboring settlements. "In total, 2,048 people have been evacuated, including 763 children, of whom 280 people, including 83 children have been accommodated in temporary accommodation centers. Others stayed at their relatives' and friends'," the ministry said.

Twenty explosions ripped through the warehouse during the fire. Ten people were killed. They were trying to escape from the territory of the burning warehouse on a truck, but found themselves in an epicenter of another explosion.

The warehouse was built to store 3,950 railway carriages with ammunition. There were anti-tank and antipersonnel mines, TNT and detonators stored at the facility.

A criminal case was filed under part 2 and 3 of Article 109 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Causing death by negligence due to improper execution of professional duties").
