Actress Amy Locane Charged With Vehicular Manslaughter
Former Melrose Place actress Amy Locane, 39-year-old, is being held on a $50,000 bond after police say she collided with another car while driving drunk, killing the passenger and critically injuring the driver.
And, according to Acting Somerset County Prosecutor A. Peter DeMarco Jr., the fatal accident wasn't her first of the night.
Police say that Locane-Bovenizer, who changed her name after getting married in 2008, was driving drunk Sunday night when she smashed her SUV into the passenger side of a sedan as it was turning into a driveway in Montgomery Township, N.J., about 10 miles north of Princeton. The driver, Fred Seeman, was hospitalized in critical condition; his wife Helene died at the scene, CBS News reports.
In addition to vehicular homicide, the actress was charged with assault by ayto and faces 5 to 10 years in prison if convicted.
Locane, who was born in Trenton, NJ, rose to fame in the 1990s as Sandy Louise Harling in "Melrose Place." She left the show after 12 episodes and was replaced by Daphne Zuniga.
She is also known for starring opposite Johnny Depp in John Waters '50s spoof "Cry Baby" and in "Airheads" with Brendan Fraser.
The actress changed her name after wedding wine specialist Mark Bovenizer in 2008. The couple has two daughters, Paige Cricket, 3, and Avery Hope, 1, according to New York Daily News.
