The son of a Russian Federation Council (upper house of parliament) member Akhmar Zavgayev, Said-ali, a senior police lieutenant, has been killed in Chechnya, a republic in the Russian North Caucasus.

The police reports that the accident happened last night on a motor road in Chechnya's Nadterechny district. Small arms fire was unleashed on the car carrying Said-ali Zavgayev and his two colleagues - Arsan Abdulayev and Magomed Gairakhanov - near the village of Bratskoye. All the three policemen died on the spot.

A source says the policemen opened return fire on the attackers and killed two of them. One bandit has already been identified as Aslan Khasanov, a local of the Goragorsk village of the Nadterechny district. According to law enforcers, he is a member of illegal armed formations.

A third attacker has disappeared. He is said to have left for Ingushetia, a Russian Federation republic neighbouring on Chechnya, by motorcycle. Measures are underway to find and arrest him.

Said-ali has become the second victim of a bandit attack in the Zavgayev family over this month. Early in September, bandits killed the head of the Nadterechny district administration, Akhmed Zavgayev. So far, the killers have not been found.
