UN General Secretary's Special Envoy And Northern Alliance Leaders Discuss Ways Of Settling Afghan Conflict

Frances Vendrell, the UN Secretary General's special envoy to Afghanistan, met with Ahmad Shakh Masoud, leader of the anti-Taleban opposition, in Dushanbe (the capital of Tajikistan) on Monday. This RIA Novosti correspondent learned from the Afghan embassy to Tajikistan that the situation around Afghanistan had been discussed at the meeting. The UN Secretary-General's special envoy highly assessed the results of Ahmad Shakh Masoud's trip to Europe and the speech he delivered in the European Parliament which, in Vendrell's opinion, will give a fresh impetus to resolving the Afghan crisis."
