Blasts follow football game in Vladikavkaz

Two powerful blasts ripped through Vladikavkaz, the capital of North Ossetia, a few seconds apart after a football game between Alania, Vladikavkaz and Rotor, Volgograd.

According to the press service of the republic's interior ministry, two explosive devices had been planted by a drain shaft near the north gate of the city stadium. The blasts wrecked the gate and left a sizeable crater.

The police have different versions, including that of a terrorist act - whoever had planted the bombs had wanted the blasts to coincide with the end of the game, not knowing that the game would start at 17:00 Moscow time as it had been announced instead of 19:00. The game, however, ended an hour earlier, hence the fact that no one was hurt.

Experts are currently working on the site of the blasts, trying to specify the type of the explosive devices and find out if it had been equipped with a timer.
