Ukraine insists gas pipeline exploded in terrorist attack

The Ministry for Internal Affairs of Ukraine continues to insist that the explosion of the pipeline that transits Russia's natural gas via Ukraine to Europe was a terrorist act. At the same time, the official version from the State Service of Ukraine for Emergencies says that the pipeline exploded due to depressurization.

Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arseniy Avakov stated that the cause of the explosion at gas pipeline Urengoy-Uzhgorod-Pomary in Poltava region could be an explosive device planted underneath the base of the concrete pipe support.

"By examining the circumstances of the explosion, the main aspect of our attention is external interference. We assume that the bomb had been planted underneath the base of the concrete pipe support, resulting in the two short blasts. Investigation continues," he said, speaking at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday in Kiev, reports Interfax.
