Ukraine's incumbent Interior Minister Arsen Avakov confirmed the attack on the military unit of the National Guard in the city of Mariupol. When fending off the attack three were killed, 13 injured and 63 people were detained, according to preliminary data. There are no victims among the troops.

"There are no losses among law enforcement officers. According to preliminary reports, among the attackers three people were killed, 13 were injured and 63 others were arrested. Weapons, communications equipment and phones were withdrawn from them, the attackers are being identified," Interfax quoted the minister as saying.

The Interior Minister said that at night, in response to the attack on the military unit of the National Guard in Mariupol, the troops conducted an operation on the localization of the gang of about 300 attackers.

According to another version, voiced by residents of Mariupol, defense fighters tried to enter into negotiations with the troops. In response, representatives of law enforcement agencies opened fire on unarmed demonstrators. When an ambulance arrived at the scene, the vehicle came under fire as well, thus being unable to provide medical assistance to victims.

To suppress those who do not agree with the new Ukrainian government, the National Guard arrived in the city along with several dozens of members of the "Right Sector" national movement, the locals suspect.

Self-defense forces of Mariupol blocked central streets of the city.
