A citizen of Kazakhstan detained in Kirghizia on charges of wahhabism propaganda

The law-enforcement bodies of Kirghizia detained a citizen of Kazakhstan on charges of Wahhabism propaganda. A spokesman for the Kirghiz interior ministry provided this information on Tuesday. According to law-enforcement bodies, a citizen of the Chimkent region (Kazakhstan) Achilov was detained in the Jalalabad region, southern Kirghizia. As much as 174 Wahhabi leaflets, 195 CDs and 27 diskettes with propagation of the ideas of Hisb-ut-Tahrir Islamic party banned in Kirghizia were confiscated from him. Achilov also had a forged passport of a citizen of Kirghizia. The law-enforcement structures of the republic have repeatedly expressed apprehensions in connection with the propaganda of extremist Islamic trends, including by the foreign emissaries, intensified over the past two years. According to data provided by the Kirghiz interior ministry, as of today, the militia bodies know about the existence of 1,000 advocates of Wahhabism. In the year 2000 39 people were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment for propaganda of the extremist religious doctrine.
