Heavy Position Fighting Close To Tajik-Afghan Border

Heavy position combats are under way between forces of the Northern Alliance and the Taliban five to ten kilometres off the Tajik-Afghan border. The public relations board of the Russian frontier service in Tajikistan said that on Saturday, in the vicinity of the Kupletin post of the Pyandzh border force, tanks fired from a position near the Aikhanim hill at the Taliban positions in the direction of the Zardkamar village. Bomb blasts and artillery pounding from the Afghan territory adjacent to the frontier were heard in the Aivadzh border post.
