A strong quake has struck northern Japan. The national meteorological agency said another tsunami could be possible. Regional tsunami advisories have been issued, Russia Today reports. 

The quake was measured 6.8 on Richter scale. It happened at a depth of nearly 10 kilometers. Waves up to 50 cm high were expected for Aomori and Iwate prefectures.

Iwate was heavily damaged by the quake and tsunami waves in March 2011, The Asosciated Press reports
