Frontier guards fired at in Ingushetia
A BTR personnel carrier of the Russian Federal Border Service was subjectedto fire on its way from Nazran, Ingushetia, to Vladikavkaz, North Ossetia,the press service of the Federal Border Service reported. The incidentoccurred at 7:45 a.m. when the armored vehicle was driving near Nazran'shospital. A grenade from a portable grenade launcher was fired at the BTR,however, it did not reach the vehicle, as it smashed into an adjacentelectric transmission tower. Nobody was injured. Currently law enforcementagencies are searching for the escaped criminal in the nearbysurroundings.The press service does not rule out the possibility that the attack on theBTR with frontier guards inside had been planned by Chechen gunmen inresponse to the elimination of gunmen of Chechen warlord Khasan in theKerigo Gorge at the end of July 2002. .
