Ferry crashes into pier in NYC, at least 85 hurt
The ferry, arriving from New Jersey, crashed into a pier in the port of Lower Manhattan. The collision injured 85 people. At the time of the accident, there were 326 passengers staying on board the ferry. Most of them were going to work at the time when the accident occurred.
According to Coast Guard, two victims currently stay in intensive care in critical condition. A special commission investigates the causes of the accident. It has already been determined that this is not the first emergency that the operator had had.
The vessel belongs to Seastreak LLC. Company representatives insist that they did everything possible to ensure the safety of customers.
The accident occurred at 08:45 local time. The ferry had a part of the body damaged, but remained afloat. Witnesses said that dozens of passengers were lying on stretchers along the pier waiting for paramedics.
