Water level in Danube River continues to rise

The water level in the Danube in Hungary continues to rise, setting new records, local authorities report Friday. 

In particular, on the border with Austria, the water level in the river reached 6.46 meters, while the previous record in this area, from 2002, amounted to 6.42 meters. Near the city of Gyor, 100 kilometers from the Hungarian capital, the water rose to 8.86 meters, which was also a record.

Hydro-meteorologists expect the water level in the Danube will continue to rise.  In Budapest, the water level may reach 8.85 meters, whereas absolute record of 8.6 meters was set in 2006.
