Russian governor seriously injured in car accident

Russian governor seriously injured in car accident. 46023.jpegThe police of Russia's Sverdlovsk region (with capital in Ekaterinburg) investigate the reasons of the car accident, in which local governor Alexander Misharin suffered serious injuries. The injured official was hospitalized to the regional hospital in Ekaterinburg where he received surgery.

Misharin regained consciousness, his condition is stable, Vyacheslav Lashmankin, the chairman of the gubernatorial administration said.

The official reasons of the accident have not been determined yet. According to one of the versions, governor's Mercedes luxury car swerved into oncoming traffic. Weather conditions could also play the role in the accident, officials said.

The accident took place on the 206th kilometer of Ekaterinburg-Serov highway on Thursday night, at about 9:00 p.m. MSK. Misharin was reportedly returning from the town of Severouralsk, where he had a meeting with electors within the scope of the election campaign.

Three cars collided with each other in the accident: Volga Syber, Skoda Octavia and Mercedes, in which governor Misharin was traveling with his driver. The 65-year-old driver of the Volga vehicle died on the scene. The governor and his driver suffered serious injuries. The man and the woman who were traveling in their Skoda car, did not suffer any injuries.

Governor Alexander Misharin has reportedly suffered bone fractures of his both legs. He injured his face and lost several teeth. His car has had its front part smashed. The Volga vehicle has turned into a pile of metal debris.
