Three hundred prisoners escaped from a women's prison in Chile. This is just one of the consequences of the 8.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Chile on April 2. Tsunami waves from the quake may reach the Kuril Islands.

The authorities of Chile and Peru announced evacuation of people in connection with the tsunami alert. The waves can also reach Hawaii islands. At least five people have been killed as a result of the quake.

In Peru, thousands of buildings were left without electricity; landslides blocked several roads.

In the Chilean city of Iquique, as many as 300 inmates escaped from a prison for women. Tremors echoed in Bolivia too.

Chile is one of the most seismologically dangerous regions of the world. More than 300 earthquakes took place in the area in late March. Seismologists can not predict how the situation may develop further.

According to most recent reports, the death toll from the quake has risen to 6. The tsunami warning has been lifted.
