Kidnapped Russian sailors released in Nigeria

Six Russian sailors and one Estonian, who were kidnapped off the coast of Nigeria from Bourbon Liberty 249 tugboat, have been released, the head of the Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet stated. Official spokespeople for the Russian Foreign Ministry also confirmed the information. The details of the operation to release the kidnapped sailors have not been exposed yet.

The attack on the Bourbon Liberty 249 tugboat was committed on October 17 in the territorial waters of Nigeria, near the town of Brass, Radio Svoboda reports. The vessel services offshore drilling platforms for the extraction of hydrocarbons on the shelf off the southern coast of Nigeria. The pirates seized the management team of the crew.

As Pravda.Ru reported, kidnappings in Nigeria are often conducted by militant group "Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta", which stands for the nationalization of oil resources and conducts subversive activities in the area of ​​their extraction.
