New York loses 5 billion dollars by flight delays

According to the Joint Economic Committee recent flight delays in New York have cost the city more than $5 billion in losses.

The companies lost $1.45 billion in passengers' time, $1.6 billion in income for the local economy and $2.3 billion on airline profits.

The delays, according to the report, resulted from late trips of other air carriers and caused the release of 900,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide.

The picture of delays in 2007 in the city looked like this: air passengers were delayed by over 10 million hours at the John F. Kennedy Airport, 9 million hours at Newark and 8 million hours at LaGuardia. The three airports comprise 12 percent of the total delays in all U.S. airports last year.
