Chinese Titanic to travel from Southampton to NY in 2016

Austrian billionaire Clive Palmer has signed a contract with a Chinese shipyard in Nanjing. Under the contract, Chinese craftsmen will build Titanic 2 by 2016 - a fully functioning replica of the famous liner.

From China, the Titanic 2 will travel to the UK, where it will be prepared for its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York - the same route as in 1912. A whole consortium will be involved in the works, including the famous Norwegian company Deltamarin.

"It will be difficult to recreate this luxury liner, but Jinling Shipyard has 60 years of experience in the construction of various types of vessels of high quality," - the director of the shipyard said.

The liner will be 270 meters long and 53 meters high, says BigPond News. The vessel will have nine decks and a total of 840 rooms. The Titanic 2 will be able to accommodate 2,400 passengers and 900 crew members.

Palmer's representatives say they have already received first requests for booking cabins. Some clients offer up to a million dollars for the opportunity to travel on the maiden voyage of the Titanic 2 in 2016.
