Two soldiers escape and kill four police officers in the Ulyanovsk Region

Military service is becoming more and more intolerable for Russian soldiers. Today, an incident that took place in the Ulyanovsk region became known. Two soldiers of an airborne unit escaped from the army base in the settlement of Polivno at about 3 a.m. The soldiers were serving for a fixed period of time. The fugitives took Kalashnikov guns along with them and stole a VAZ vehicle from the local population and headed towards Kazan (the republic of Tatarstan). The highway patrol stopped the guys on the territory of Tatarstan, but the soldiers simply shot three police officers, took their weapons, and drove further, VolgaInform reports.

This was not the end of the story. The soldiers also shot at police officers who were trying to seize the fugitives on a highway. The number of the victims on the part of the police reached six people, including four who were killed. The criminals have probably reached the city of Kazan already. However, it is not known where they are at the moment. They are being searched for by police from the Ulyanovsk Region and Tatarstan.

Unfortunately, the incident in the Ulyanovsk region was not the only such incident. There has been quite a number of news stories recently reporting about escaped soldiers who killed officers or fellow soldiers.

Two soldiers of the border guard escaped four days ago from Uelen border post in the Chukotka region. They shot all the officers of their own unit, but showed mercy towards 20 military men though, having locked them in the barracks. A group of officers, as well as General Nikolay Lisinsky left for the site of the tragedy to investigate. Another smiliar story happened earlier in the Amur District of the Khabarovsk Region. The soldiers did not find any place to stay, and yielded, being dog-tired, from hunger and cold. Soldiers Dmitry Maksimov and Renat Zabirov (20 and 22 years of age) escaped from the garrison of the Novosibirsk Region at the beginning of January. They stole 700 thousand rubles from the safe of the acting commander of the unit.

Getting back to the incident in the Ulyanovsk region, there is a strong, vital need for reform of the military service in the country, and today’s story is more proof. The conditions under which the young men have to serve and the relations in the barracks can sometimes hardly be called humane.
