According to Western news agencies, the Qatar television network al-Jazeera, which has lately become almost the only source of information about Afghan developments, aired today an interview with Mr. Moulvi Rahmatallah Kakazada, the Taliban’s consul to Karachi. In his words, the Taliban’s military machine have not suffered any heavy losses as a result of the US’s activities in Afghanistan. However, this is not the case with the USA. From the start of the hostilities, the Taliban forces have eliminated from 70 to 100 US soldiers, Mr. Karazada asserts. The Pentagon has not commented on the Taliban consul's statement. At the same time, the US media recently circulated information claiming that the landing of the American paratroopers passed off not as smoothly as had been earlier reported. US servicemen reportedly came across severe resistance near Kandagar. Also, according to the Taliban’s consul, Mullah Omar and Osama bin Laden have not been hurt, in spite of US efforts.
