Russian millionaire adds unique retro car to his collection

The unidentified millionaire is said to have paid EUR 3.5 million for it

A Russian businessman purchased an extremely unique retro car, a spokesperson for the administration of the Retro Classics Fair in South German Stuttgart (Baden Wurtemberg) said on Sunday.

A wealthy Russian, whose name has not been exposed to the public eye, purchased a roadster Mercedes Benz-540 K Cabriolet exhibited at one of the fair stands for 3.5 million euro. The car is equipped with an 8-valve engine of 5.390 cubic centimeters and the 180 horsepower capacity.

Experts said that only five automobiles of this type were produced within the period of August 1938 - October 1939, and only one of them is intact today. Romania's Monarch Karol II was the first owner of the retro car; he bought the roadster before the war. Now the antique car has become a new item in the collection of a wealthy Russian individual.

Retro Classics administration said that the transaction became the largest one in terms of sale and purchase of unique cars, Itar-Tass reports.
