Night of terror at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport

43154.jpegFollowing the terrorist attack at Moscow's busiest international airport, the general public is trying to understand how the suicide terrorist managed to enter the building of the airport carrying a bomb in his suitcase. It happened soon after the recent ice storm chaos in the Russian capital, which severely complicated the work of the airports and made the authorities increase their attention to them.

According to the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper, the terrorist could arrive to the airport from Moscow by car and leave his car on the parking lot, from where one can enter the waiting room of the international terminal. The entrance is guarded by two security officers. There is a metal detector there too, but it is very easy to enter the terminal because security do not really watch those coming in. It is easy to pass by both the security officers and the metal detector.

Afterwards, the terrorist most likely went upstairs, where there are always a lot of people. The people, who were staying there at the moment of the explosion, said that there were so many people in the area that it was absolutely impossible to see who was coming and who was going.

Eyewitnesses also said that the terrorist, a male, shouted his last words before he blew himself up: "I will kill you all!" Afterwards, the explosion ripped through the room.

"The explosion was so strong, it made the people in the international terminal collapse on the floor," an eyewitness said.

"I was supposed to meet a man from London. When it all happened, the first thing I thought was - "a plane crashed on the building." I saw a ball of fire, people started screaming and running around. The bomb was full of damaging agents. I had my both legs injured, my trousers were torn to pieces. I was very lucky to suffer only minor injuries, but I saw one guy who had his whole face literally ripped off," Dmitry Ilyin, an eyewitness, said.

Another eyewitness, Artyom Zhilinkov, said that he had seen a terrorist from his back. The terrorist was wearing all black, the man said. He was carrying a suitcase that exploded.

Surveillance cameras at the airport captured the moment of the explosion. Click here to see the video.

As of the morning of Tuesday, January 25, the airport is operating normally, although security measures at the airport have been tightened.

The bodies of 25 people killed in the explosion have already been identified - they had their documents with them, officials said. The bodies of other victims have not been identified yet.

There were six foreigners among the victims: two British nationals, a citizen of Germany and citizens of former Soviet republics of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, Vladimir Markin, an official spokesman for the Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation said.

According to most recent information, 35 people have been killed and 97 seriously injured in the explosion. Eighty-seven people are still staying at Moscow hospitals as of January 25.
