Syria: Life under wings of death

Syria: Life under wings of death. 52030.jpeg

Special correspondent of Pravda.Ru in Damascus Elena Gromova wrote an article about the tragic consequences of supporting the opposition in Syria. While the West supports the opposition, the opponents of the regime arrange terrorist attacks that kill innocent people. Likely there is no person left in Syria who had not lost a loved one.

A young resident of Damascus Ahmad was shocked when one morning he opened Facebook and saw a picture of his friend among the portraits of those who died in a terrorist attack. This was a picture he recently took at the request of his friend. Could he think that this was the last shot of his friend when he was taking that picture?

A Syrian Kurd named Znar had a difficult fate. He fell in love with a woman whose parents were strongly against their marriage. However, their love overcame all obstacles, and having survived the test worthy of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, two months ago the young people got married. After the wedding they moved from the capital to a small town of Al- fry located in the eastern Syrian province of Hasaka.

But their happiness was crossed out by a black wing of inescapable death brought to Syria by terrorist groups enjoying full support and patronage of the Western countries.

On January 23, when the world closely followed Geneva-2 conference opened in Switzerland, in Al-fry a suicide bomber blew himself up along with a vehicle filled with explosives. The incident occurred near the local market and registry building. It so happened that at this time the young man was outside the building where he was going for a marriage certificate. He became one of the five killed. Another 10 people were injured in the attack.

Explosions, mortar attacks, kidnappings and other barbaric terrorist crimes committed under the guise of "the opposition" have destroyed many families and caused plenty of grief to mothers, widows, and children. It is likely that there is not a single person left in Syria who had not lost a relative, friend, or acquaintance.

The Syrians viewed Geneva-2 in different ways. Some were hoping that it could put an end to the war of terror against the country, but many were skeptical about the possibility it would achieve anything. However, prior to the conference cars with Syrian flags and portraits of President Bashar al- Assad toured through the streets of Damascus.

The head of the state gave an interview to Agence France-Presse before the conference. In the interview he emphasized that the conference could contribute to the dialogue between the Syrians, but the dialogue should take place in Syria. Geneva-2 could only support the political process but not replace it.

Bashar al-Assad divided the Syrian crisis into two stages. At the first stage the enemies' goal was to minimize the state and carry out a coup over a few months or even weeks. But these plans have failed, and he believes that at the first stage the Syrians have won. Then there came the second stage when terrorists came to the arena. While the fight against them continues, the army is victorious and therefore we can say that Syria is successful at the second stage, though it will need more time to win.

Discussing the delegation of the opposition at Geneva-2, the UAR President noted that many of the so-called opposition groups did not exist at all until recently. They were created by the secret services of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, France, the U.S. and other countries after the beginning of the crisis. Bashar al-Assad emphasized that when he sits down to the negotiations table with these groups, in fact he is negotiating with these countries. He added that there were other opposition forces that operated inside Syria and had a patriotic program. They are capable of negotiating.

However, in practice it turned out that the internal opposition forces mentioned by the president were not invited to the Geneva Conference. During the talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry the latter has assured that he would do everything possible to ensure that the Syrian opposition was represented as widely as possible.

One of the internal opposition forces, National Coordinating Committee, headed by Hassan Abdel-Azim was sent a formal invitation. In fact it turned out that it was not the original, but a copy of the invitation. The original was sent to the representatives of foreign "opposition" led by Ahmad Jarboe. In Syria this "opposition" is called "Qatar coalition" or "Doha coalition," because it was formed in the Qatari capital, and its first meeting was held there. Thus, those who took on the role to speak on behalf of the world community have rudely demonstrated that they believed only one party, this Qatari coalition, to be the genuine Syrian opposition. The rest can be sent copies instead of the original invitation or not sent the invitation at all as it happened with the majority of other internal opposition movements.

The removal of Iran from Geneva-2 looked very rude and awkward. Until the last days the issue of participation of this country remained a big question. Finally, the UN Secretary General sent an invitation to Iran only to withdraw it last minute. As Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif rightly stated, such behavior is unworthy of Ban Ki-moon's status of UN Secretary General.

Despite all the provocations that preceded the Geneva conference (including the travel of the official Syrian delegation to the event when first France did not give it permission to cross the airspace and then the plane was detained at the airport in Athens for four hours) Syria has one positive thing going for it. The voice of the country under the information blockade will be heard publicly.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem who headed the delegation said that he and the people of Syria regretted that they were at the same table with the representatives of the countries who had blood of the Syrian people on their hands, countries that have exported terrorism, justifying the fact that their god gave them the right to send one person to hell and others to paradise. He said that they encouraged and sponsored terrorists and used oil revenues to buy weapons and to flood the international media with lies.

The Syrian Foreign Minister noted that diplomacy should be followed by a real struggle against terrorism. The Syrian delegation came to the conference in order to prevent the collapse of the entire region. He said that he was trying to protect his people as it was his constitutional duty. He assured that the country would continue to fight against terrorists. He added that someone could continue to support terrorists, and it was their decision.

The terrorists that the West continues to call the opposition "celebrated" the conference in their own way. On the same day when the young Syrian Kurd and four others were killed in Hasaka, there were bombardments of Damascus, Homs, and Bosra. As a result, four people were wounded in Damascus, four in Homs, and five in Bosra. These crimes continue almost every day. While diplomats argue in Geneva, a black wing of death continues to hang over Syria. The parties that support and finance bandits to overthrow the inconvenient leadership of the Middle East country are to blame.
